Mr. Merkel specializes in patent preparation and prosecution. He represents innovative companies of all sizes, from start-ups to some of the largest corporations.
Mr. Merkel’s technical expertise ranges the gamut of electrical devices, from high end server computer systems through consumer computing devices to hand-held and other portable devices. Mr. Merkel has experience in both digital and analog circuitry. Mr. Merkel has prepared applications for many levels of innovation, with an emphasis on microprocessor architecture and microarchitecture, system on a chip (SOC) and chip multiprocessing (CMP) technologies, system level technology, networking devices, and software. Mr. Merkel joined the firm in February of 1995, and serves as a Registered Patent Agent.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Merkel was employed with International Business Machines Corporation where he worked in the superscalar microprocessor design area of the Advanced Workstations and Systems division. Mr. Merkel participated in several successful microprocessor designs, including the PowerPC line of processors. He performed logic design, circuit design, and verification work during his employment. Mr. Merkel is a co-inventor on four issued patents.
