Associates
Associates have the opportunity to work in the rewarding and challenging
field of Intellectual Property law. The practice includes litigation,
prosecution of patent applications, trademarks, copyrights, franchising,
and counseling on such matters. We encourage early responsibility and
hands-on training, working directly with other attorneys and clients.
Compensation
Associate salaries are merit-based and are indicative of the efficiency
and development of individual Associates. We make an effort to keep
Associate compensation competitive within our market. Our compensation
package is reviewed annually to ensure we are in step with the market.
New law school graduates receive a standard base salary, along with
a stipend for bar expenses.
Patent Agents and Technical Advisors
Patent Agents and Technical Advisors are a significant part of many
areas of our practice. Patent Agents and Technical Advisors work closely
with our attorneys, our clients, and inventors to prepare and prosecute
patent applications. Their expertise in a particular technology is a
valuable resource to our attorneys, clients, and inventors. Our Patent
Agents and Technical Advisors also have the opportunity to be exposed
to other aspects of our practice such as litigation and patent licensing.
Patent prosecution involves a unique mix of challenges
including both technical and legal skills. The
Patent Agent/Technical Advisor position provides a means for experiencing
this unique mix without the requirement of a formal legal education
(i.e., law school). Meyertons, Hood, Kivlin, Kowert & Goetzel, P.C.
offers an excellent career path via the Patent Agent/Technical advisor
position for those with technical or scientific backgrounds who wish
to assume more responsibility and work in the challenging and rewarding
field of Intellectual Property law. Our Technical Advisors are encouraged
to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration exam to
become registered Patent Agents.
