Kay A. Colapret specializes in organic chemistry and chemical processes. Dr. Colapret serves as a Registered Patent Agent.
Dr. Colapret received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, from University of Kansas in 1979. She attended KU on various scholarships and grants. She received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981. Her Master’s thesis research involved the electrochemical properties and reactions of tetra-t-butyl-tetrahedron. She received a Ph. D. in Chemistry from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1987. Her principle area of research was the characterization and reaction of strained enones.
Dr. Colapret has worked as a process chemist for Bristol-Myers Squibb developing new processes for the manufacture of pharmaceutical compounds. At Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Colapret developed several processes used in manufacturing that specialized in handling hazardous materials.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Colapret worked for Texaco and Equilon (an alliance between Royal Dutch Shell and Texaco) in the area of downstream product research and development. She has been involved in passenger car motor oil additive process development, industrial oil formulations, passenger and heavy-duty diesel engine oil formulations and new technology in the area of heavy-duty diesel emission control. During her tenure, she authored several papers, presentations, and developed two proprietary manufacturing processes. Dr. Colapret is a member of the American Chemical Society.
